Reviews all foreign and local research proposals at the initiation
and renewal stages. Colleges decide what priorities to fund in complex
collaborations involving other Eritrean and foreign institutions,
but the URC must review the funding protocols in these collaborations
prior to their being signed by both parties;
Awards research funds to faculty;
Administers all grants, including monitoring and reviewing research
progress;
Provides graduate students - both in Eritrea and abroad - with local
supervision in their area of interest where possible, and ensures
the public dissemination of their research findings as appropriate;
Disseminates information on research and grants to faculty and students;
Surveys all departments and maintains data on equipment and facilities,
making recommendations on needs and budgetary allocations;
Builds a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration by reviewing
research with the view to determine possible areas of collaboration
being overlooked and to involve faculty with parallel interests elsewhere
in the University;
Holds regular University-wide seminars to identify and promote potential
collaborations among faculty;
Helps to disseminate the results of University-based research so
that the results reach the widest possible popular and scientific
audiences;
Works with the University Research Library in building its capacity
to serve the University research community as well as other collaborating
institutions.
