Academic Research
The University of Asmara is responsible for educating leaders and generating
knowledge that will promote the development and socio-economic growth
of Eritrea. We therefore place significant emphasis on pursuing academic
research that addresses important problems relevant to the social, economic,
and political development of the country. With this clear goal, research
proposals are generated through the creative enterprise of faculty and
their graduate students, who develop their projects out of their own intellectual
pursuits, as well as from working relationships with government, business,
and other popular constituencies relevant to their work
Assessing National Needs
To maintain and update vital links between the University and relevant
national needs, the Director of Research convenes a biannual Research
Convocation, where academics and representatives of government, business,
and civil society examine national priorities and revise research priorities.
The outcomes of these convocations serve to guide the overall planning
for research throughout the University.
