Dear Graduates:
As the chair of the committee, I am so pleased
to extend congratulations to the graduates, and staff on our accomplishments
and achievements. Graduation day is a time for remembrance. It is
a day for good wishes, good friends, and goodbyes. So you, the honored
graduates of the 2004 class, please accept my best wishes for continued
success!
Honored graduates, we have earned
our degrees and diplomas through hard work, determination and a great
deal of luck! However, no one goes through university without the
help of others. We owe a great debt of thanks to our government, our
people, our parents and relatives, for they helped us reach this level.
Moreover, sincere thanks go to our teachers and entire university
community for their commitment and dedication to our academic excellence.
Above and beyond, we should praise GOD/ ALLAH.
Now that we are graduating, our
people and government’s expectation from us is very high.
Of course, they expect us to bring changes in the living of our society.
Hence, we must be
leaders for changes. We must listen to our publics, and be committed
to serving the people
of this country in ways that matter in their lives. And graduation
day ought to be the day
when we should promise to repay our debts.
Seeing that the university is
the heart of this state and we, its graduates, are the soul; our
ideas and ideals will influence the future for all Eritreans. Each
of us will have a substantial
impact on our communities, families, our professions, and our social
institutions.
Let us use that impact for good. Proud graduates, during our stay
in University of Asmara,
we witnessed a lot of challenges to our people and our country; disturbances,
wars and
aggressions, from around our corners. In such situations, we, on our
part, made many
stories of courage, dedication and effort. And those qualities will
serve us well in the
future.
On our graduation day, we will
receive a lot of advice. And, I can’t resist sharing you
with some, which I shared and read from wise people, and books: Stand
for some thing,
even if you stand alone. Abandon virtual reality for real things.
Read for fun. Never,
ever give up. Additionally, I call upon each of us to be active and
informed citizens,
working for the common good.
I carry
memories of good times and great friends. You take that with you as
well.
May peace and prosperity be to Eritrea.
