Duration of Study
The graduate programs offer a 2-year master's with a research component.
Part-time students can take up to a maximum of 5 years to complete
the program.
Credit Hour Requirements
Graduate programs require a total of 36 to 44 credit hours. The
normal semester load for the first year ranges from 12-16 credit
hours, after which the semester load ranges from 6-12 credit hours.
Part-time students must always take a semester load of 6-9 credit
hours.
In order to give students a solid theoretical foundation
at an advanced level, a total of 28-34 credit hours of coursework
is required, the bulk of which should be taken during the first
academic year. When this is difficult to achieve, a maximum of 6
credit hours of course work may be offered during the third semester.
There should be no coursework during the fourth semester.
Teaching Requirements
After completion of their first year coursework, all graduate students
(regular or part-time) are required to teach one course. This exercise
is expected to contribute to the enhancement of the students' communication
skills. Graduate students receive a proportionate reduction in their
tuition during the semester they undertake this assignment.
Scholarships/Assistantships
The UoA will offer limited scholarships/assistantships. The awards
are based on individual academic achievement and scholarly potential
to complete graduate-level coursework and curricular requirements.
The awards are given for a period of one year and may be renewed
for another year, provided the graduate student demonstrates success
through a high GPA. Prospective students are encouraged to apply
for this award.
