Freshman Placement

At the end of second semester, freshman students complete the following placement form and submit it to the Freshman Program Office so that their placement in a department can be processed. Departments open to students in the Social Science and Natural Science Streams are indicated on the forms.

Students may not complete more than one form. The Admission and Placement Committee, which has representation from all of the colleges of the university, does the placement using guidelines available for placement.

Students from the Natural Science Stream are placed in:
The College of Science, including the following departments:

• Mathematics
• Biology
• Chemistry
• Physics
• Geology
• Computer Science
• Marine Sciences

The College of Engineering, including the following departments:

• Civil Engineerin
• Mechanical Engineering
• Electrical Engineering

The College of Health Science, including the following departments:

• Pharmacy
• Clinical & Laboratory Science
• Nursing

The College of Agriculture, including the following departments:

• Agriculture Engineering
• Animal Science
• Plant Science
• Land Resource & Environment
• Agricultural Economics
• Agricultural Extension

The College of Arts, including the following department:

• Journalism & Mass Communication

The College of Social Science, including the following department:

• Statistics & Demography

The College of Education, including the following department:

• Science Education, with a focus in one of the following units: SE Biology, SE Chemistry, SE Physics and SE Mathematics.

It should be noted that Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Extension take about 2/3 of their students from the Natural Science stream and 1/3 from the Social Science stream.

Students from the Social Science Stream are placed in:

The College of Business and Economics, including the following departments:
• Accounting
• Economics and Finance
• Business and Management
• and Public Administration

The College of Arts, including the following departments:

• English
• Journalism & Mass Communication

The College of Social Sciences, including the following departments:

• Geography
• Political Science
• History
• Archeology & Anthropology
• Statistics & Demography
• Sociology

The Faculty of Law

The College of Education, including the following departments:

• Educational Administration
• Educational Psychology
• Social Science Education with a focus in one of the following units: SSE Geography, SSE History and SSE English

The College of Agriculture, including the following departments:

• Agricultural Economics
• Agricultural Extension

The departments of Statistics and Demography in the College of Social Science and Journalism & Mass Communication in the College of Arts take about 2/3 of their students from the Social Sciences stream and 1/3 from the Natural Science stream.
