The department offers a Baccalaureate degree in nursing, which is a four-year plus two-summer program. The mission of the Nursing Department in the College of Health Sciences is to provide high quality education to prepare capable, considerate, ethical and compassionate nursing professionals for service to individuals, families, and communities. As part of the University of Asmara, the Nursing Department is devoted to the achievement of excellence in all of its activities. It accomplishes its mission by emphasizing teaching, research, and services.

The department performs the following activities to meet its purpose: it offers sciences, liberal and professional education; encourages a student-focused educational setting; advances critical thinking; builds a departmental tradition of innovative education and creates partnership among students, faculty of the department and university, patients, and health care professionals at the clinical site.
