Overview

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication offers a four-year Bachelor of Arts degree program. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare students for careers in emerging media arenas, equipping them with entry-level skills in print and broadcast journalism.

Mass Communication today includes not just newspapers, radio and television, but also online information sources, which have descended upon us with great speed. Media have become highly complex, and journalism has become a profession of intellectual and technological challenges. Training must keep pace. Students completing the degree program in journalism and mass communication at the University of Asmara will be prepared to meet the challenges that lie in store for Eritrea.

The Department is also affiliated with the Journalism Diploma program at the Hal-Hale Campus that became operational in February, 2004. The department is among the few departments that have opened extension courses.
