Advanced Diploma in Library and Information Studies
The Advanced Diploma in Library and Information Studies prepares individuals for mid-level careers in the organization, retrieval, and dissemination of information in libraries, schools, research facilities, and other institutions. The growing demand for immediate and accurate information in all sectors of society has created a great need for professionals in the management of complex bodies of information. Graduates of this program will be able to function as circulation operations assistants, information processing technical staff, information procurement assistants, information and reference guidance and management assistants, information retrieval helpers, computer database searchers, information delivery assistants, information dissemination assistants, etc. They will also be able to completely manage small or medium collections of information resources. The various high school and some elementary schools, several public libraries (including community libraries), ministries, agencies, research and academic institutions, and private sector libraries, documentation and information centers are all currently run by skeletal staffs. The 3-year curriculum requires a minimum of 90 credit hours. It is designed to give students a strong understanding of the basic principles of organizing and running libraries and information services. Tasks are both organizational and technical.
