Professionals in every field of communications are currently in great demand throughout Eritrea, in both the public and private sectors. While the undergraduate program of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Asmara prepares students to become journalists for the mass media, there exists a great need for mid-level professionals trained in public relations, copy writing, and multimedia skills to meet the staffing needs of the financial and service sectors of the economy.

The Advanced Diploma in Journalism is a 3-year program requiring 93 credits for graduation. Students may specialize in public relations, copywriting, or multimedia, although other specializations are in the planning. Graduates will be readily employable in businesses, public organizations, ministries, and the many non-governmental organizations in Eritrea.
