Overview

The Middle School Education Unit, formerly part of the Department of Secondary School Teachers (SST) in the Faculty of Education, was established in 2001 and includes five Departments:

• English Education
• Mathematics Education
• Science Education
• Geography Education
• History Education.

Currently the Unit has one teaching staff at the Masters Level and offers three pedagogical courses for all diploma students. In collaboration with other departments, courses have been selected based on their relevance to the content in the Middle school subjects and their capacity to provide the basic background in the respective fields of study.

We seek to provide students with knowledge in the respective fields of study, as well as teaching strategies and skills that will enable them to embark on their careers.

There is currently a great shortage of qualified teachers in Middle schools in all parts of the country. Therefore, graduates will find employment as teachers with relative ease for the foreseeable future. Furthermore, it is expected that graduates will be employed in other Ministries or private organizations, given the skills and knowledge acquired in this program.
