The College of Education was established in 1997 following an international
symposium on the "Challenges of Eritrean Education ". Presently
the Faculty comprises five departments and units:
- Secondary School Education
- Science Education unit and Social Science Education unit,
- Middle School Education unit
- Educational Psychology
- Educational Administration
The College of Education offers the following programs:
- Degree in Educational Psychology
- Degree in Educational Administration
- Degrees for Secondary School Teachers in Science and Social Sciences
- Diploma for Middle School Teachers
The College graduated the first batch of degree students in 2000 ,
and has graduated an average of 300 degree and diploma students each
year since that time. Today the College has 940 students.
There are 28 faculty members, 4 of which are expatriates and 4 which
are on study leave (1 for Master's and 3 for Ph.D. programs).
The main objective of the College is to strengthen its capacity to
fulfill its role within Eritrea's national educational policy and human
resources development framework. To realize these objectives, the faculty
is collaborating with internal and external linkage partners.
The specific objectives for the years 2000-2004 include:
- To strengthen the Faculty of Education through staff development
and staff secondment
- To strengthen teaching facilities (instructional media centre and
educational resource centre) and improve classrooms
- To review curricula of existing programs to adequately reflect and
meet the teacher needs of the country
- To strengthen our internal and external linkage collaboration
- To strengthen the counselling services
- To establish a Special Education Unit
