Overview
Since 1979 the Department of Accounting has offered
a four-year degree program leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree
in Accounting. The Department, in consultation with local and external
partners and Eritrean scholars in the Diaspora, reviewed its curriculum
in 1992 and again in 1998 to meet the new demands and developments
in the field of Accounting. The faculty members are qualified Ph.D.s
and M.A.s with specialization in Financial Accounting, Financial
Management, Cost and Management Accounting, Auditing, Financial
Institutions and Taxation. The Department attracts highly qualified
students from the Freshman Program of Social Science stream.
The main objective of the department is to prepare
students for careers as financial executives, auditors and in managerial
sectors of the economy. An important goal of the department is to
train accountants and researchers who will be able to contribute
to finding solutions to the economic problems of the country.
The Department of Accounting offers relevant courses,
which equip students with specialized knowledge, skills and resources
for a successful career in commerce, industry, financial institutions,
government offices and the accounting profession. Graduates are
employed in both the private and the public sector in various positions
such as general accountants, cost accountants, financial managers,
internal auditors, tax auditors, certified public accountants, chief
accountants and managers.
