The College of Engineering was launched in September 1995 as a part
of the College of Science. It later became an independent college
in November 1997.
To satisfy Eritrea's immediate need for technical manpower,
the College of Engineering began a three-year diploma program in the
three conventional areas of Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering.
Between 1997 and 2000, 240 engineers graduated from the diploma program.
This diploma program has now been phased out, and the College offers
only the Bachelor's degree program. Including those entering with
advanced placement, the College has now graduated more than 300 engineers
at the Bachelor's level.
Today, the College has a total of 400 students enrolled
and has begun to accept diploma graduates from relevant fields into
the degree program who have credentials from recognized Universities.
Two additional areas of study, Architecture and Urban Planning and
Chemical Engineering, are to be launched in the near future.
