Overview
This Department offers a five-year program leading to
a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. The course is designed
to prepare students to design and construct buildings, roads, dams,
and other structures that the agricultural and industrial development
of Eritrea requires. Other students may be prepared to carry out basic
research and development, creating methodologies and identifying appropriate
local materials for the construction of buildings, roads, port facilities
and other structures. The Department also aims to provide consultancy
services related to the field.
Graduates from this program will have excellent job
opportunities for some time to come in Eritrea. The number of qualified
engineers in the country and the demand for engineers is incomparable.
The need for engineers is obviously clear. Graduates may expect to
be involved in designing structures of different civil works like
buildings, highways, and bridges; supervising construction works;
studying and designing water supply schemes, wastewater systems and
other water related works like groundwater and dams, or leading construction
works as site engineers.
