Overview
Agricultural Engineering is the profession that bridges the gap between
two fields of applied sciences, i.e. engineering and agriculture. The
graduates of agricultural engineering can play a significant part in
the development of agriculture and water resources and in the achievement
of the major goals of the government of Eritrea. They work in the design
and construction of soil and water conservation structures; on the construction
of irrigation and drainage systems; operation maintenance; design and
improvement of farm machinery and implements; and processing and storage
of improved seed, food and dairy products.
The main government employers are the Ministries of Agriculture and
Land, Water and the Environment. Graduates may also find employment
in other organizations such as NGOs, which are involved in development
projects or commercial agricultural enterprises. The graduates are also
able to consider setting up their own businesses.
