Overview
The Department of Clinical Laboratory Science During offers a four-year
undergraduate professional degree program. Following the completion
of the freshman program, students acquire a broad theoretical knowledge
and complement this knowledge with specific skills developed and practiced
in laboratory experiments as well as in clinical laboratories. This
theoretical background is supplemented with two summer practical field
assignments (to be conducted at the end of 2nd and 3rd year) in hospitals
or laboratories, during which students rotate among the specialty units.
Upon completion of the program, graduates will have acquired the knowledge
and skills necessary to fulfill the job requirement of an entry-level
Clinical Laboratory Scientist in a clinical diagnostic laboratory.
This degree allows graduates to work in a variety of laboratories encompassing
the specialties: hematology - the study of blood; clinical biochemistry
- the study of body chemistry; histology - the study of body tissues;
microbiology - the study of microorganisms; serology - immunological
diagnostics; and immunohematology - the study of blood banking and blood
transfusion.
The broad training in many specialties will result in good employment
opportunities in referral and regional hospitals, clinics as well as
private laboratories. Other areas in which there will certainly be future
employment opportunities include pharmaceutical companies, public health
laboratories and research laboratories.
